Friday June 12, 2009

This morning Abigail and I practiced for an hour.
When I asked if there was anything special she might want to do, she requested a Meditation using the Lotus Mudra and gathering energy. She also mentioned that her thyroid was out of whack and that she was on medication to bring some balance to that.  She said her energy was very low.
I asked if she didn't mind doing most of the session on her back, and she mentioned that would be fine.
We lay in Savasana for several minutes, while I directed her breath with the 3 Part Yoga Breathing.
I lingered in the upper chest, at the base of the throat, and we did some simple affirmations about communication and skillful speech, about saying what was on one's mind.
Namaste.
We spent quite a bit of time with Pranayama.
I then directed her through several chest opening poses while on her back, inhaling/exhaling arms down.
I directed her in a series of Bridges, each one becoming a little more challenging, ending finally with the hands interlaced beneath the back.
Brought Knees to Chest between each Bridge and did a little rocking.
Then did a Leg Lift series, rotating ankles, rotating one leg, then the other, lowering the straightened leg to the floor, then up to the ceiling again.
Rotated the knees in both directions, and thought I might do a Supine Spinal Twist but remembered that her lower discs were tricky.
Did Happy Baby pose and really breathed into the hips and pelvis.  Then brought the souls of the feet together
and lowered them together in Supine Bound Angle.  Brought the arms out to a T but folded at the elbow with forearms on the floor, palms up.  Then into Namaste.  I think this is called Birth Pose or Womb Pose.
Came onto our right side, placed the left leg in front of the right leg and gently stretched it forward and backward.
Aligned legs, bent the left knee and found the foot with the left hand for a good quad stretch.
Repeated on other side, then came to sit.
We rolled up our mats and used the wall for the guided Meditation.  I spent several minutes with this meditation, and it was very powerful.  Used the Lotus Mudra, then Anjali Mudra, starting at the crown of the head, and working our way down the chakras to the solar plexis--then gathered in all the energy and brought it into the upper chest with fingers spread.
Namaste.
I won't work with Abigail for at least another month, and we agreed we would miss one another.
